Details: Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Michael Nkambule has died at the age of 37. According to Soccer Laduma, the player succumbed to injuries sustained in a recent road accident. The entire South African football community is in mourning.
Nkambule, a native of Daveyton, rose through the Kaizer Chiefs academy before making his way to European football. In his youth, he had a trial with French side Strasbourg and, on home soil, represented the colours of Amakhosi, SuperSport United, and Black Leopards. He was also called up to South Africa's Olympic squad. In recent years, he spoke openly about battling personal demons that cut short his promising career, but remained a respected voice in South African football.
A sad reality: throughout his career, Nkambule never truly fulfilled his potential, but Kaizer Chiefs fans remember him as one of the club's most skillful players of the late 2000s.
