Uganda International and SC Villa Captain David Owori Dies After Reported Kampala Robbery Attack
Ugandan football has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of SC Villa captain and Uganda international David Owori, who reportedly died after being attacked during an attempted robbery in Kampala.
According to reports from local authorities, the 27-year-old defender sustained fatal injuries after he was assaulted by a group of suspected robbers near his home in the Makindye suburb on Tuesday night.
Police say the attackers allegedly attempted to steal Owori's mobile phone and other personal belongings before violently attacking him. He was later rushed for medical attention but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
Eyewitnesses claimed the footballer was struck with paving stones during the attack before the suspects fled the scene, leaving him unconscious.
Owori was a key figure for Sports Club Villa, Uganda's most successful football club, where he captained the team and was admired for his versatility, featuring both as a right-back and in midfield.
