Soumaïla Coulibaly Willing to Join Mali National Team Despite No Official Contact

Although he has not yet decided on his international future with Mali, young defender Soumaïla Coulibaly, who is now on loan from Borussia Dortmund, is sympathetic to the thought based on his prior statements.

Coulibaly has shown an interest in playing for Mali in the future, despite the fact that the Malian Football Federation (Femafoot) has not yet contacted him.

"No, I have not had any contact for the moment, no one has spoken to me about that," the 20-year-old revealed in an interview with Africa Foot United.

"But if I feel like playing for Mali?," he continued. Why not? This comment implies that he is amenable to the idea, maybe awaiting a more firm offer from the federation.

Coulibaly’s current situation at Borussia Dortmund is uncertain. After returning from a loan spell at Royal Antwerp, he finds himself behind several established central defenders, including Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle, Waldemar Anton, and Filippo Mane, which limits his chances of a regular starting spot.

Despite having a contract until 2026, his future is unlikely to be with Dortmund, since teams like England, Spain, Italy, and France are interested.

Coulibaly demonstrated his ability during a successful loan spell at Royal Antwerp, where he played 30 games in both the Belgian Pro League and the Champions League.

He is keen for more playing time. Dortmund is apparently looking for a high price in the double digits of millions for the defender, but they are willing to let him go.

Although Coulibaly has not received any communication from Femafoot as of yet, his willingness to play for Mali may make him a promising future member of the national squad.
