"Son of a b**ch" — Atlético fans insult Julián Álvarez during Málaga match
The tension between Julián Álvarez and part of Atlético Madrid's fanbase has reached boiling point.
Details: According to ElDesmarque, a section of supporters in the south stand of the Metropolitano directed an offensive chant at Julián Álvarez following Atlético Madrid's 2-0 victory over Málaga. The fans repeatedly shouted "Julián Álvarez, son of a bitch" at the Argentine striker, who was not included in Diego Simeone's squad for the La Liga opener.
The chant was not taken up by the entire stadium and came from only a section of the home support. However, it highlighted the growing frustration surrounding the striker's future. ElDesmarque reports that some Atlético supporters are unhappy with the way Álvarez has handled his desire to seek a move away from Madrid this summer amid persistent transfer speculation.
Álvarez missed the Málaga game because he had only been training with the rest of the squad for around a week, with Simeone deciding not to include him in the matchday squad. It is worth noting that the Argentine scored 20 goals for Atlético Madrid across all competitions in the 2025/26 season, including 10 in the Champions League and eight in La Liga. Transfermarkt currently values the forward at €120 million, while his contract with Atlético runs until 2030.
