Negotiations between Mourinho and the Galácticos' management are at an advanced stage, prompting Benfica's board to urgently search for a new head coach, with Marco Silva fitting the bill perfectly.
Silva's contract with Fulham expires at the end of the season and will not be renewed, boosting Benfica's chances of securing their desired target.
Media reports have repeatedly mentioned that Marco Silva is highly sought after by several top clubs. Silva is also one of the contenders for the manager's seat at Chelsea, which has yet to find a replacement for the departed Rosenior.
