Sixth World Cup for Ronaldo. Portugal officially qualifies for the 2026 World Cup
On November 16, the Portuguese national team played their final match of the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. In Porto, Roberto Martinez's men delivered a resounding victory that secured the top spot in their qualifying group and clinched a place in the finals of the upcoming World Cup.
It’s worth noting that for Portuguese talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, this will be his sixth World Cup appearance. No other footballer has ever competed in so many editions of the tournament. Lionel Messi has achieved the same remarkable milestone and will also take to the field for a sixth World Cup with Argentina in North America.
Additionally, Ronaldo received a red card in Portugal’s previous match against Ireland. The legend now faces a multi-match suspension, which could see him miss the opening game of the World Cup. Earlier reports indicated that Portugal is preparing an appeal in an effort to have the ban reduced to just one game.
