The doping case involving world No. 1 Jannik Sinner is far from resolved, as the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has rejected the ITIA’s decision to clear the tennis star. If Sinner is found guilty, he could face a significant ban.

Details: According to sports law expert Angelo Cassela, the case revolves around the player's own negligence, as he is also responsible for the actions of his team. As a result, WADA is pushing for a suspension ranging from one to two years.

Quote: “It is clear that a banned substance was found in the athlete’s body, and Sinner’s negligence is not being disputed. However, WADA is seeking a suspension of one to two years due to recklessness, considering that the athlete is also accountable for the actions of his staff,” Cassela stated in an interview with L'identità.

Reminder: In March 2024, Sinner tested positive in two separate doping tests, which detected low levels of clostebol—a substance used for muscle growth. However, the ITIA ruled that the substance had entered his body accidentally and cleared him of wrongdoing.

The case is now being reviewed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, with hearings scheduled for April 16.
