Simeone's dream comes true! Cuti Romero passes medical at Atlético
Cristian Romero has passed his medical at Atlético and is set to officially become a player for the Madrid club.
Details: Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Argentine arrived in Madrid in the evening with his agent, having received permission from Tottenham. The clubs have agreed on a fee of €40 million plus bonuses, with Spurs negotiating a 15% sell-on clause. The 28-year-old defender will sign a contract until 2031 and becomes Simeone's fourth summer signing.

Simeone has been pursuing Cuti for over a year: back in the summer of 2025, Spurs valued him at €80 million and made him captain, but after a scandal-ridden season, public criticism of the club's management, and a narrow escape from Premier League relegation, both sides decided to part ways. Inter, Napoli, Arsenal, and Barcelona were also in the race, but Romero chose Madrid alone.
During his five years at Tottenham, Romero played 124 matches, led the club to the 2025 Europa League title, and remains a cornerstone for the Argentina national team, with whom he won the 2022 World Cup and two Copa América trophies. Transfermarkt valued him at €60 million, so Atlético have landed their top target at a considerable discount.
