Shocking tragedy: young motorsport talent Sid Weijer dies in karting track accident at just 7
Sid Weijer, a budding motorsport talent, has tragically passed away following a fall from a minibike at a karting track. The heartbreaking news was shared by his cousin, Collin Weijer, who posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram.
"Sid, you fought with all your might despite everything that happened, but you couldn’t win this difficult battle. I am so proud to be your cousin and will never forget the good times we spent together, even though I wasn’t home often. I will always cherish those memories and will never forget you as a person. You will always remain in my thoughts. You inspire me to fight as hard as you did," Collin wrote.
The accident occurred on December 22 at an indoor karting track in Swalmen, Netherlands. Sid was airlifted to a hospital in Maastricht with severe head injuries. According to RacingNews365, the young racer underwent multiple surgeries due to his critical condition.
Despite the doctors’ best efforts, Sid succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, surrounded by his family.
The tragic loss of such a young talent has deeply saddened the motorsport community and highlights the risks even in junior racing.
