Shock in front of Djokovic! Daniil Medvedev disqualified for hitting a ball at a spectator
The dramatic semifinal of a prestigious tennis tournament ended in an unprecedented officiating scandal and the match being stopped prematurely.
Details: Tennis star Daniil Medvedev was disqualified during his semifinal clash with legendary Serbian Novak Djokovic at the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing for an uncontrolled shot that struck a spectator in the stands.
The incident unfolded late in the second set, with Djokovic leading 7–5, 5–3. Frustrated after losing another point, Medvedev angrily blasted the ball toward the stands, hitting a fan directly in the face.
The chair umpire and tournament supervisor held an emergency consultation before making an unequivocal decision to immediately disqualify the player for gross unsportsmanlike conduct. As a result of the incident, Novak Djokovic advanced to the Beijing final without completing the match.
It is worth noting that the incident sparked a massive wave of discussion because of its direct parallel with Novak Djokovic himself, who was similarly disqualified at the 2020 US Open after hitting a line judge in the throat with a ball.
Reminder: Surpassed Nadal and rewrote tennis history. Djokovic set an incredible record in Beijing
