"I was shocked to learn a few weeks ago that the wife of my friend and teammate was diagnosed with breast cancer. It’s inspiring to see how optimistic Rebecca is in facing this diagnosis. For them, it’s clear who will come out victorious," Lewis shared.
He also urged people to support Rebecca through the fundraising platform to help give her the best chance of recovery. Initially aiming to raise €10,000, donations had exceeded €42,000 by November 27.
The German Ice Hockey Association also expressed its support for the former player during this challenging time.
Rebecca Orendorz represented Germany in five World Championships, playing a total of 170 games for the national team.
In 2020, she married Dieter Orendorz.
