Accident: Hockey player Gregorio Gios accidentally shot by his father during hunting trip
Gregorio Gios, a hockey player for Italian club Asiago in the ICE Hockey League, was accidentally shot by his own father during a hunting expedition, Bild reports. The incident occurred in a wooded area near the town of Asiago in the Veneto region of Italy.
His father, Andrea Gios, recounted that their hunting dog signaled the presence of a wild animal, prompting him to fire his shotgun. Unfortunately, the shot accidentally hit Gregorio, causing injuries across his body.
The hockey player was urgently taken to the emergency unit in Asiago, where doctors extracted pellets and treated his wounds. He was then transferred to a hospital in Bassano del Grappa.
While the injuries are not life-threatening, they are serious enough to delay his return to the ice. It is expected that Gios may be able to resume playing in January.
“The memories of this incident are painful for me. He should be back on the ice in a few months, hopefully by Christmas. After that, it will all depend on how quickly he regains his fitness,” Andrea Gios said in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
Andrea Gios, a well-known figure, is the former mayor of Asiago and currently serves as the president of the Italian Ice Sports Federation (FISG).
