Shock! Bayern are trying to steal Barcelona's star
Bayern Munich have joined the race for one of Barcelona's defenders, setting up a potentially fierce transfer battle.
Details: According to SPORT BILD journalist Christian Falk, Bayern Munich are considering a move for Barcelona defender Jules Koundé during the January transfer window. The German giants are particularly attracted by the French international's versatility, as he can operate both at right-back and in central defence.
Bayern are looking to strengthen the right side of their defence. Although Vincent Kompany can rely on Konrad Laimer, Josip Stanišić and Sacha Boey, the club reportedly believes Koundé could provide an upgrade. However, the Bavarians may first need to sell Boey before making a serious move for the Frenchman.
The competition promises to be fierce. Chelsea are also closely monitoring the 27-year-old defender, while Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City have previously been linked with the Barcelona star.
Koundé has seen his playing time decrease under Hansi Flick this season, with Eric García providing serious competition at right-back. Nevertheless, the Frenchman is reportedly in no hurry to leave Barcelona, and no agreement over a potential transfer has been announced.
It's worth noting that Koundé joined Barcelona from Sevilla in the summer of 2022. In August 2025, the defender signed a new contract with the Catalan club until June 30, 2030, meaning Bayern would have to negotiate his departure.
