Al Nassr may be heading toward one of the biggest ownership changes in Saudi football.

Details: According to Semafor, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund is working to clear around 800 million riyals, or $213 million, of debt held by Al Nassr. The plan involves sponsorship arrangements with companies from the fund's portfolio and is intended to strengthen the club's balance sheet ahead of a possible sale.

The report says RedBird Capital Partners and its partners have already held at least two meetings with PIF over the possibility of acquiring a 70% stake in Al Nassr. The potential investors could pay around 1 billion riyals, approximately $267 million, for that share.

However, the negotiations are still at an early stage. A source close to the fund described RedBird's interest as preliminary, while the final terms have not been agreed and there is no guarantee that the transaction will eventually be completed.

Cristiano Ronaldo could also become much more than the team's biggest star. If the deal goes through, the Portuguese forward is expected to hold a 20% stake in Al Nassr. Saudi Media Company has also been mentioned among the potential investors, although the final ownership structure could still change.

RedBird is already a major name in European football as the owner of AC Milan. It is worth noting that Al Nassr currently sit third in the Saudi Pro League after eight matches, with six victories, according to the league's official data.
