Shock after El Clásico! Flick makes unexpected decision hours before Ballon d'Or ceremony

Barcelona's painful El Clásico defeat has been followed by another unexpected development. Head coach Hansi Flick has reportedly decided to skip the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony in London, despite the importance of the event for his club.

Details: According to Cadena SER's Què T'hi Jugues programme, as reported by Spanish newspaper AS, Flick will not travel to London for the Ballon d'Or ceremony on October 26. The German coach made his decision following Barcelona's defeat against Real Madrid in Sunday's El Clásico. The report does not establish that the result was his sole reason for staying behind. Flick's absence was also reported by The Touchline, although Barcelona have not provided a detailed public explanation.

Flick will not be the only notable Barcelona absentee. Defender Pau Cubarsí has reportedly decided to remain at home to rest after accumulating considerable playing time for club and country. The young centre-back's decision comes during a demanding period of the season, with Barcelona managing injuries and a crowded schedule.

Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal remains one of the major attractions of the ceremony. The Spanish winger is expected to travel to London with family members and friends, while other Barcelona representatives will attend as part of the club's delegation. Rodri, Dani Olmo and Joan García are among those expected at the gala. Yamal's possible achievements will attract particular attention, although no award result has been officially revealed.

It's worth noting that the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place on October 26 at the London Palladium, beginning at 20:00 GMT. This marks the 70th anniversary of the award and the first time the event is staged in London. Despite Flick's reported absence, Barcelona will still have representatives at one of football's most prestigious evenings.

Reminder: Will miss El Clasico: Flick loses key defender ahead of clash with Real Madrid.
