Serie A club sacked coach who headbutted an opposing player
Lecce has officially parted ways with the head coach, Roberto D'Aversa, immediately following their defeat to Verona (0-1), a match marred by a controversial incident involving D'Aversa.
In the aftermath of the game, D'Aversa headbutted opposing forward Thomas Henry, earning himself a red card.
However, the issue extends beyond this episode, encompassing Lecce's recent performance. The Giallorossi have secured victory in only one of their last 12 Serie A matches, earning a mere point in their last five outings. Currently positioned 15th in the league standings with 25 points, Lecce is a mere one point clear of the relegation zone.
The successor to D'Aversa has not been announced by the club.
Prior to his tenure at Lecce, D'Aversa had managed Parma and Sampdoria.
