Sensational decision. Panama's Carasquilla is recognised as the CONCACAF Player of the Year
Today, CONCACAF announced the winner of the 2024 North American Footballer of the Year, and the confederation’s choice came as a surprise.
Details: The award for the best player of the year was given to Panamanian midfielder Alberto Carrasquilla, who plays for Houston Dynamo.
In the voting, Carrasquilla surpassed stars such as Christian Pulisic, Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David, Leon Bailey, and Santiago Giménez.
Carrasquilla was named the best player of the 2024 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where Panama reached the final, only to lose narrowly to Mexico (0-1).
This marks the first time in history that a player from Panama has won this award.
In the previous two years, the award went to Bayern Munich’s left-back, Alphonso Davies.
Interestingly, no player from the United States has ever won the award, which was established in 2013.
Reminder: The MLS Player of the Month was recently awarded to the legendary Lionel Messi.
