The African Nations Championship (CHAN), the U17 and U20 Africa Cup of Nations, the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, the Senior Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and even the U15 school championship are among the CAF competitions in which Senegal is expected to compete in 2025. The nation's will to continue its current football success in every category is reflected in this ambitious goal.
During a meeting to review past performances and plan for the year ahead, National Technical Director Mayacine Mar outlined Senegal’s goals. “We aim to retain our titles and, for the women’s senior team, to win the AFCON, which has eluded us so far,” he stated.
To ensure success, Senegal’s Football Federation (FSF) has committed to providing all necessary resources. Mar emphasized the importance of proper organization, starting with evaluations of previous competitions and the creation of tailored preparation schedules for each team.
Preparations are already underway, with training camps, friendly matches, and tournaments planned for all national teams. The CHAN team, for instance, will engage in a series of friendlies ahead of the tournament, which runs from February 1 to 28, 2025.
The FSF’s commitment to financial and logistical support highlights the nation’s determination to sustain its recent achievements. According to Mar, “The president of the FSF has assured us that all resources will be made available to continue our success.”
The football community in Senegal is working together to achieve what they call the “Grand Slam,” which means winning all major CAF competitions. Amara Traoré, a member of the FSF executive committee, stressed the need for unity, saying, “The idea of ‘Manko Wutti Ndamli’ has helped us win these trophies, and now we must stay united.”
With careful planning, modern training facilities, and a shared goal, Senegal is ready to protect its titles and strengthen its position as a leading force in African football.
