The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Tuesday a large increase in prize money for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), beginning with the 2019 edition, which will be hosted in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from February 1 to 28, 2025.

The winner will now receive $3.5 million, which is 75% more than in the last tournament, said CAF President Patrice Motsepe. The total prize money for the tournament will also go up by 32%, reaching $10.4 million.

Motsepe shared his thoughts on CAF’s official website, saying:

“We are very excited about the African Nations Championship 2025, which will be held in three countries.” We’ve decided to increase the rewards to motivate the teams taking part and to show how important this tournament is for Africa.”

The draw for the tournament will happen on January 15, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya. Teams from all over Africa will compete to win the championship.

This decision is part of CAF's attempts to upgrade the African Nations Championship and increase the competitiveness of local teams, demonstrating a growing commitment to improving football on the continent.
