Senegal retains its Africa Cup of Nations title
According to lawyers for the Senegalese Football Federation, the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football has not ordered the trophy and medals to be returned to Morocco.
The decision of 17 March by the CAF Appeals Committee continues to make headlines. After formally referring the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Senegal has broken its silence. The legal team representing the governing body of Senegalese football held a press conference on Thursday 26 March in Paris.
According to Seydou Diagne, the lawyer representing Senegal, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, in its appeal, asked CAF to rule that Senegal had withdrawn from the pitch during the final, to award a 3-0 victory to Morocco, and to strip Senegal of the African championship title and the prizes.
However, the CAF Appeals Committee rejected the request to strip Senegal of the title and prizes. Consequently, no decision by the Appeals Committee requires their return. Senegal can therefore, as planned, proudly present its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations trophy to its supporters at the Stade de France on 28 March during its international friendly against Peru.
