Senegal formally appeals to the Court of Arbitration for Sport
The Lions of Teranga are seeking to reclaim their 2025 African Championship title, which was awarded to Morocco on 17 March following a decision by the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football.
This marks the start of a legal battle between Senegal and Morocco. A week after the CAF’s bombshell decision to invalidate Senegal’s victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, the Senegalese Football Federation has launched a counter-attack.
The governing body of Senegalese football officially lodged an appeal against the decision on Tuesday 24 March with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Through this procedure, Senegal is formally challenging the verdict of 17 March 2026, handed down by the CAF Appeals Committee. The lodging of the appeal was confirmed by Moussa Mbaye, a member of the Executive Committee of the Senegalese Football Federation.
People will hear a lot of fake news, but they should be patient and wait for the official statements from the Senegalese Football Federation. We will not act on emotion, but in a calm and very clear-headed manner to best serve Senegal’s interests.
