Senegal Confirm Ilay Camara and Assane Diao Will Miss AFCON 2025
Senegal will face the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations without key players Ilay Camara and Assane Diao, a significant blow to the team’s preparations for the tournament.
The country’s football federation confirmed that defender Ilay Camara will miss the competition due to injury. Meanwhile, striker Assane Diao suffered an injury while playing for Como against AS Roma in Serie A on Monday. Como coach Cesc Fabregas had requested that Senegal not select the 22-year-old forward for AFCON 2025 to allow for his recovery.
Senegal, one of the tournament favorites, is drawn in Group D alongside Benin, Botswana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The team will kick off their campaign against Botswana in Tangier next Tuesday.
