AFCON 2025: Nicholas Jackson Brace Fires Senegal to 3–0 Win Over Botswana
Nicholas Jackson was the standout performer as Senegal began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with an emphatic 3–0 victory over Botswana on Tuesday in Morocco.
The Chelsea loanee to Bayern Munich delivered a confident display, scoring twice to put the Lions of Teranga firmly in control. Jackson opened the scoring in the first half, calmly finishing to give the Lions of Teranga an early advantage. He then doubled Senegal’s lead after the break, showcasing his sharpness in front of goal and underlining his importance to the team.
Senegal maintained their dominance throughout the match, limiting Botswana’s chances and controlling possession. Their strong performance was capped off in the second half when substitute Ndiaye added a third goal, tapping in from close range to seal a comfortable win.
With this result, Senegal sit top of Group D on goal difference after the opening round of fixtures. The Democratic Republic of Congo are level on points after edging Benin 1–0 in their own group match on Tuesday.
