Manchester City have identified another highly rated Premier League midfielder, but Crystal Palace are refusing to open the door.

Details: According to The Athletic, Manchester City have approached Crystal Palace to enquire about the possibility of signing 22-year-old midfielder Adam Wharton. However, the response from the London club was immediate and firm: the England international is not available for transfer this summer.

Wharton is among several candidates on Manchester City's recruitment list as the club continues to assess options for strengthening the centre of midfield before the transfer window closes. The reigning English giants have therefore tested Palace's position, but so far there is no indication that the Eagles are prepared to enter negotiations.

Crystal Palace have no intention of selling one of their key midfielders before the September 1 deadline. That stance makes any late move particularly complicated, as the London side would have very little time to find and sign an adequate replacement.

The interest in Wharton is not entirely new. The midfielder has been linked with several leading English clubs in recent months, while Palace have repeatedly maintained that they would prefer to keep him at Selhurst Park.

It is worth noting that Wharton remains under contract with Crystal Palace until 2029. The midfielder joined the Eagles from Blackburn Rovers in 2024 and has since established himself as an England international.
