Drug scandal in South America: Bus for São Paulo seized with 86 kilograms of marijuana

A transportation incident ahead of the Copa Sudamericana match turned into a full-blown crime thriller.

Details: Bolivian police detained a bus chartered to transport the Brazilian club São Paulo’s delegation during their stay in Bolivia.

During a routine inspection in the Cochabamba region, officers from the rural mobile patrol unit discovered four jute sacks inside the vehicle. These sacks contained bricks of marijuana, totaling 86.55 kilograms.

As a result of the special operation, three people present in the vehicle were arrested. The bus had already been branded with São Paulo’s insignia, but the team had not yet boarded at the time of the seizure.

The subcontracted transportation company had to urgently provide another bus to shuttle the players and staff of the Brazilian club from the airport to their hotel.

It’s worth noting that São Paulo had arrived in Bolivia for the Copa Sudamericana round of 16 match against local side Bolívar, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
