Scandal! Saudi Arabia kicks player out of squad over a hamburger
A hamburger has reportedly cost Saudi Arabia midfielder Musab Al-Juwayr his place in the national team ahead of the Arabian Gulf Cup.
Details: The 23-year-old footballer was excluded from Saudi Arabia's squad for the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup after allegedly violating the rules established by the national team's coaching staff. According to local media, Al-Juwayr ordered food from a restaurant without permission while staying at the team's training camp in Jeddah. Reports suggest that the midfielder broke the squad's strict dietary regulations, with a hamburger allegedly at the center of the controversy.
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation officially confirmed the midfielder's exclusion, citing disciplinary reasons. However, the federation did not disclose the exact nature of the violation. The decision was made jointly by the national team's technical and administrative staff.
Al-Juwayr subsequently issued a public apology, accepting full responsibility for his actions. The footballer acknowledged his mistake without offering excuses or revealing what exactly had happened at the training camp. He also expressed his respect for the decision and wished his teammates success in the upcoming tournament.
It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia will host the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup from September 23 to October 6. The national team will begin its campaign against Kuwait, while Al-Juwayr's place in the squad has been taken by Al-Ittihad midfielder Mukhtar Ali.
