Liverpool Demands Urgent Investigation After U18 Player Faces Racist Abuse at German Tournament.

Liverpool has called for an urgent investigation following claims that one of their U18 players was subjected to racist abuse in consecutive matches at a tournament in Germany.

The Liverpool team and coaches walked off the field in both matches—against Hoffenheim on Friday and Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday—after the player reported being racially abused by opponents. Both matches were canceled, despite Eintracht's statement that the remarks were a "linguistic misunderstanding."

"Liverpool can confirm that a member of our U18 team reported being racially abused by an opponent during a match at the Bundesliga Youth Cup in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany, on Friday. The player immediately reported it to the match referee, his teammates, and our coaching staff. As a result, the management team decided to stop the game and leave the field. In another incident, the same player was again subjected to abuse during a match on Saturday. The player again informed his teammates and coaches, who decided to leave the field once more. We are proud of our player's actions and his maturity. He and others affected by the incident are receiving support from the academy's security team. The club calls on our opponents and the tournament organizers to conduct an urgent and thorough investigation," the club's statement read.

In an interview with the German newspaper Bild, Eintracht Frankfurt's sporting director, Timmo Hardung, stated that the club takes the accusation seriously but insists that it was a "linguistic misunderstanding" involving a term widely used in Germany.

"Our youth academy is multinational, and we uphold clear values that we demand from everyone," Hardung noted. "There is no place for racism in our club, but we take the accusation seriously. We believe it is a misunderstanding, and we hope to resolve the differences between the Liverpool players and officials involved."
