Scandal in the Nigeria national team. Reports claimed Osimhen could retire from international football, but these rumors were denied
After the controversy during the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash against Mozambique, where Nigeria cruised to a commanding 4-0 victory, unsettling rumors began to swirl about the future of star striker Victor Osimhen with the national side.
Details: According to Arise TV, Victor Osimhen had allegedly decided to end his international career, handed in his accreditation, and was planning a return to Turkey. As a reminder, Osimhen refused to celebrate the win after Lukman failed to pass him the ball for a goal, and he was the first to leave the dressing room, followed by Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Musa Gusau.
However, these rumors were swiftly denied. According to Clint’ Ayooye, Osimhen is still with the squad and actively participating in national team training sessions. He remains focused on the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations matches, maintaining team spirit and preparing for the quarterfinal showdown.
It's worth noting that in the quarterfinals, Nigeria will face Algeria, with the match scheduled for Saturday, January 10, at 17:00 Central European Time.
Reminder: In their match against DR Congo, Algeria scored their latest-ever goal in Africa Cup of Nations history.
