On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia will formally be announced as the 2034 FIFA World Cup host, making history. FIFA has given the Kingdom, the tournament's only bidder, the highest assessment score ever—4.2 out of 5—signaling a significant milestone in its football history.

There are several reasons why this World Cup will be important. This tournament will be the first to be solo-hosted and include 48 teams, following the 2026 World Cup, which was co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico and saw the introduction of the expanded format. It will also replace the special 2030 competition that Morocco, Spain, Portugal, and three South American countries would share in honor of the World Cup's centennial.

Saudi Arabia has outlined an ambitious plan featuring 15 stadiums across five cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Khobar, Abha, and Neom. Important venues include Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium in Qiddiya, located on Tuwaiq Mountain, and the state-of-the-art King Salman Stadium, which will host the opening and final matches.

The Kingdom is preparing, taking advantage of its geographical diversity, building advanced facilities, and renewing its existing infrastructure. Ten supporting cities will host training camps and provide cultural and tourism experiences, enriching the event for players and fans alike.

Saudi Arabia’s hosting credentials are bolstered by a track record of organizing global sporting events, including the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, the Italian and Spanish Super Cups, and the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship. With its successful bid for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and other prestigious events, the Kingdom is set to cement its place as a global sports hub.

As the countdown begins to the historic tournament, Saudi Arabia’s visionary plans and unwavering support from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signal its readiness to deliver an unforgettable World Cup in 2034.
