Samuel Eto'o, the legendary footballer and current president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), is embroiled in a cultural conflict. Eto'o has received the honorary title of "NTUMFON" from the Fon (traditional chief) of Koshin village in Cameroon's North West region. This title was given to honor his work and support for the community.

The ceremony, held on January 17, 2025, at the Koshin Palace Annex in Douala Bonaberi, has caused strong reactions among traditional leaders. Some Fons from the Littoral region of Cameroon have criticized the event, saying it goes against traditional customs. They claim the person who organized the ceremony did so without getting permission from other traditional leaders.

The Fon of Koshin responded by defending his conduct and asserting that he is entitled to bestow titles inside his own territory. He said: "I am the main chief of Koshin village, and I have the power to give titles to those who serve my palace and community."

In response to rumors that Eto'o was given the title "Fon of Fons," the Koshin leader explained that only Paul Biya, the president of Cameroon, is eligible to have such a title.

This event sparked discussions about the integrity of ancestral customs and highlighted the tricky balance between maintaining traditional traditions and achieving modern prominence.
