Safa settles outstanding payments to Bafana Bafana players who did duty for the country in the African Nations Championship in Uganda last August
South African Football Association has settled the outstanding bonuses it owed Bafana Bafana players who did duty for the nation a last year’s African Nations Championship.
The players are to have been owed around R100 000 each for the tournament which was co-hosted by Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya last August.
“Yes, we have been paid,” one player told FarPost. “It took longer than expected, but we are grateful that the matter has now been resolved.”
The monies are said to have been paid last week as the players have been growing frustrated over the delays in payments.
This tournament has now been scrapped with Caf announcing that there will now be the African nations League to start next year.
“The first thing I was asked to do as CAF president was to kill the CHAN, and I wasn’t going to do that because some of the member associations that do not have the same resources and skills said, ‘ Please keep it.’ I can tell you now, with this African Nations league, it will take the place of CHAN because there will be no more need for it,” Caf President Patrice Motsepe said before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco late last year.
