Sacked right after the £50m splash! Forest axe the man behind their record signing
Two weeks after smashing their transfer record for Liam Delap, Nottingham Forest have shown the door to the man at the top of their football operation.
Details: Global head of football Edu has left Forest after just over a year at the City Ground, with his contract terminated. The former Arsenal sporting director had not attended a game since February and was believed to have played no active part in the £50m swoop for Delap, whose signing from Chelsea was confirmed on August 27.
Edu's exit ends a turbulent spell that began with fanfare in July 2025, when his arrival from Arsenal was seen as a coup for a club returning to Europe. Instead, his tenure became defined by a falling-out with Nuno Espirito Santo, the first of four managers Forest burned through last season, and a growing detachment from day-to-day operations under owner Evangelos Marinakis. He will not be replaced, with chief football officer George Syrianos assuming his responsibilities, while former Olympiacos vice-president Theodore Giannikos has just been appointed chief executive. The timing is awkward but telling: Forest's record-breaking summer, capped by the Delap deal, is a project Edu had drifted far away from long before it was completed.
It's worth noting that Edu brought Mikel Arteta to Arsenal and helped deliver their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, a CV that makes his quiet Forest fade-out all the more remarkable.
