Sabalenka and Zheng will play in the final of the last WTA 1000 tournament of the year
The final WTA 1000 tournament of the 2024 calendar year is nearing its conclusion in Wuhan, China. After today’s semifinals, the finalists have been decided — Aryna Sabalenka and Qinwen Zheng.
The Belarusian player was seeded first in the tournament. After her victory at the US Open, Sabalenka didn’t have much success in Beijing, but now she will try to win another title this year.
Zheng has managed to improve on her recent Beijing performance (semifinals) and will aim for her fifth WTA title. Throughout the Wuhan tournament, the Olympic champion from Paris 2024 has lost only two sets and eliminated the strong Paolini.
The two players have met on court three times before. Interestingly, all of their encounters have taken place at Grand Slam tournaments, with Sabalenka winning all three matches.
