Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds and his business partner Rob McElhenney have become owners of Colombian top-flight football club La Equidad, reports The Sun.
Reynolds and McElhenney won’t be the sole owners of the club. Other co-owners include actress Eva Longoria, former NBA player Shawn Marion, and several other notable figures.
This marks the duo's third football investment, following their acquisition of Wrexham in 2021 and Mexican club Necaxa later that same year. Now, they add Colombian club La Equidad to their growing portfolio.
Founded in 1982, La Equidad won the Colombian Cup in 2008.
The arrival of high-profile owners could help the club gain international recognition and elevate its status, much like Wrexham’s meteoric rise to the English Football League and global fame under Reynolds and McElhenney’s ownership.
The star duo is also working to boost Necaxa’s profile, with a documentary series titled Bienvenido a Necaxa set to air on FX and Disney+. The acquisition of La Equidad signals their ambition to expand their football empire across different continents.
