Rugby star Keven Appo flees UK after rape charges
Former Bradford Bulls rugby player Keven Appo has fled the United Kingdom for his home country of Papua New Guinea after being charged with rape, reports the Daily Star.
The athlete, accused of sexually assaulting a woman and committing two counts of assault, failed to appear for his court hearing scheduled for January 6.
A representative of the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that Appo fled England immediately after being charged. The rugby player was granted bail on November 26, after which he boarded a flight from Manchester to Dubai on the same day and then connected to Papua New Guinea. Before leaving the country, he returned the keys to his house and car to the Bradford Bulls.
A warrant for Appo’s arrest without bail has since been issued by the court.
Following the official announcement of the charges, Bradford Bulls terminated Appo’s contract. The club has declined to comment further on the matter.
