Rodri profile: injury, trophies, education, salary, family, Ballon d'Or

At 28, Rodri is recognized as one of the premier defensive midfielders in modern football, with a collection of key European titles under his belt. Only a World Cup win eludes him from solidifying his legacy in the game. Here’s a closer look at his remarkable career.

Rodri: injury record

Even elite players aren’t immune to injuries. While Rodri is generally resilient, he sustained two significant injuries between July and September 2024. A minor injury first sidelined him during the UEFA Euro final, but he returned by late August. However, in September, a serious ACL tear occurred, which will keep him off the pitch for more than a month.

Rodri: trophies

Rodri began his career in Spain, but his greatest accomplishments came with Manchester City. By October 2024, he’s a four-time English champion, holder of the FA Cup, Community Shield, League Cup, UEFA Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup with City. He also boasts UEFA Nations League and UEFA Euro titles with Spain.

Rodri: Ballon d'Or

His stellar performances haven’t gone unnoticed, earning him a 2024 Ballon d'Or nomination. This year, he faces strong competition from Vinícius Júnior and Jude Bellingham, although many media outlets have already unofficially tipped the Spaniard as the favorite.
