The Fennecs’ captain is leaving the national team after making his mark on Algerian football history.
Riyad Mahrez will no longer play for Algeria on the international stage. The 35-year-old forward has announced that he is bringing his career with the Fennecs to a close.
“That was my last match for the national team,” Riyad Mahrez told beIN Sports following Algeria’s elimination in the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup. For the Algerian national team, Mahrez made 119 appearances, scoring 40 goals and providing 45 assists. The captain won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with the Fennecs.
