River Face Brutal Run Ahead of Superclásico Showdown

River Plate are heading into a defining stretch of their season, with eight matches in just 29 days leading up to the Superclásico clash against Boca Juniors on April 27. Marcelo Gallardo’s side will begin the run on March 29 against Rosario Central, knowing every point counts in both domestic and continental competitions.
Following a lackluster start to 2025—including a Supercopa loss to Talleres—River used the international break to rest and recover injured players. Now, they face five league fixtures and three Copa Libertadores group stage games, with trips to Lima and Quito on the horizon.
Currently third in their league group and two points off the top, River must fight for a playoff spot while also aiming to get a strong start in the Libertadores. With form and morale at stake, Gallardo’s men can either steady the ship or face major doubts by the time they meet Boca.
