Riveiro’s Al Ahly targets player from Europa League side

Al Ahly’s performance at the FIFA Club World Cup was underwhelming, and as a result, coach José Riveiro is looking to strengthen the squad — even with players from European clubs.

Details: According to Africa Foot, the Egyptian giants — along with RS Berkane of Morocco — are targeting Shakhtar Donetsk defender Alaa Ghram. The Tunisian center-back was not a regular starter last season under coach Marino Pušić, appearing in just 13 matches (two of them in the Champions League). Now, top African clubs are looking to bring him back to the continent.

However, the situation could change. Shakhtar recently appointed Arda Turan as their new head coach, and his plans for the Tunisian international remain unclear. Ghram is under contract with the Ukrainian side until 2029, so both Al-Ahli and RS Berkane may consider a loan deal as a more realistic option.

Reminder: Al Ahly was previously linked with Śląsk Wrocław striker Assad Al-Hamlawi, but the forward instead opted to join KSU Craiova.
