Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro lauded his players' character following their 2-1 triumph over Al Ahly in Cairo, a result that secured top spot in Group C of the CAF Champions League. Goals from Relebohile Mofokeng (53′) and Tshegofatso Mabasa (83′) handed Pirates their third-ever away win against the Egyptian giants, making them the first South African team to achieve such a feat.

Riveiro was proud with his team's ability to bounce back from extreme pressure, especially when Al Ahly tried to equalize in the second half. "It was a good game for both teams, but I appreciate my players for showing resilience against Ahly in Cairo," he stated. "This win is a message to ourselves that we have the capacity to compete in tough scenarios."

Riveiro cautioned that the championship is far from decided despite the historic victory. "The quarter-finals will be an even bigger challenge," he said. Although it's crucial for us, we still face a more challenging phase. Who will win the title is still too soon to tell," he said.

While Orlando Pirates have been lauded for their performance, football analyst Junior Khanye is skeptical about their chances to win the Champions League, predicting that Al Ahly will emerge as champions, despite Pirates’ strong showing in the group stage.

Both Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will now focus on the domestic league while awaiting the quarter-final draw.
