Details: According to Los Reporteros, Palestinian football has suffered a devastating loss. At the age of 32, Salim Al-Ashqar, the goalkeeper for Khadamat Khan Younis, has died. Reports say that in July 2026, he was fatally wounded by Israeli tank shelling in the Al-Qarara area, northeast of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.
According to published information, Al-Ashqar was trying to refill a gas cylinder for his family when he came under fire. The footballer played for Khadamat Khan Younis and was known as one of the team's most experienced keepers.
The tragedy struck just five months after his wedding. Salim leaves behind a pregnant wife, who is expecting their first child. His death has deeply affected the Palestinian football community and fans alike.
