The New York Rangers hockey club announced with profound sadness the passing of former forward Ron Duguay, who died at the age of 69.

Details: The Canadian forward was widely regarded as one of the most charismatic and beloved players in franchise history.

“Ron’s signature skating style — with his hair flowing as he moved down the ice — captivated The Garden Faithful, while his skill, tenacity and charisma earned him the admiration of all New Yorkers. Along with the entire hockey community, we extend our condolences to Ron’s friends, family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the club said in an official statement.

News of the legendary hockey player’s passing sent a wave of grief across North America. Fans and league veterans are paying tribute not only to the forward’s achievements on the ice, but also to the natural charisma that turned him into a true New York pop-culture icon at the end of the last century.

It is worth noting that Ron Duguay spent 12 action-packed seasons in the National Hockey League, appearing in more than 860 regular-season games for the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings. Wearing the Rangers’ blue shirt, the forward reached the 1979 Stanley Cup Final and scored more than 180 goals. After retiring, he worked for many years as an analyst and television commentator.
