RIP. Manchester City academy product dies at 32

The English football community has been plunged into mourning following news of the sudden death of the defender.

Details: English club Bury have officially announced the death of their former defender Courtney Meppen-Walter. The Manchester City academy product passed away on Tuesday at the age of 32.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Courtney Meppen-Walter, at the age of 32. Everyone at the club, along with our supporters, sends sincere condolences to his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” Bury said in an official statement.

Meppen-Walter was regarded as a highly promising prospect at youth level: he came through the Manchester City system and was called up to England’s youth teams on numerous occasions, including captaining the under-17 national side. At senior level, the defender played for Carlisle United and also represented a number of non-league clubs, including Chorley, Telford United, Radcliffe and Bury.
