Balkan football is mourning the tragic passing of an iconic figure who defined a golden era of the sport.

Details: Legendary Yugoslavian international footballer Ivan Gudelj has passed away at the age of 65. The former midfield icon, whose commanding presence and extraordinary talent left an indelible mark on European football throughout the 1980s, breathed his last following a distinguished lifetime devoted to the game.

Gudelj earned 33 caps and scored three goals for the Yugoslavia national team, representing his country with tremendous distinction at the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain and the 1984 UEFA European Championship in France. His dynamic displays in the center of the pitch established him among the finest continental playmakers of his generation.

At the club level, he became an enduring idol for Hajduk Split, making nearly 200 league appearances and captaining the team to major domestic silverware before severe health complications prematurely curtailed his playing career at the tender age of 26.

It is worth noting that after retiring from professional football, Ivan Gudelj dedicated decades to coaching youth national teams, successfully nurturing generations of elite Croatian football talents.

Reminder: Tragedy in world sports. Three-time Paralympic medalist passes away at 46
