RIP. French alpine skiing coach and former racer Hugo Salerno dies aged 31
French alpine skiing is in mourning following the tragic death of former racer and coach Hugo Salerno.
Details: Hugo Salerno, a former professional alpine skier and coach at the Courchevel Sports Club, has tragically passed away at the age of 31. According to French newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré, the athlete died on Monday evening, September 21, following a motorcycle accident.
Salerno had been working at the Courchevel club for four years, coaching young athletes in the U12 category and helping skiers from other age groups with their physical preparation during the summer. His death has deeply affected the club's staff and the young athletes he worked with.
Before becoming a coach, Salerno enjoyed a successful career as an alpine skiing competitor. He represented several French skiing organizations and won the technical classification of the Ski Chrono Samse Tour in 2020. He also made 13 appearances in the European Cup before ending his competitive career at the 2021 French Championships.
After retiring from professional competition, Salerno remained involved in the sport as a ski instructor and coach in Courchevel. He also continued competing in the Challenge des moniteurs, taking part in the event's final in April 2026.
It is worth noting that Salerno finished eighth in that final, held on the Emile-Allais course in Courchevel. It proved to be the last race of his life.
