RIP. France mourns the loss of a legendary goalscorer and national champion

French football has suffered an irreparable loss.

Details: Sad news has emerged from France: former national team striker André Guy has died at the age of 85. The passing of the celebrated veteran was announced by his former clubs.

Born in Bourg-en-Bresse, Guy left a significant mark on the history of French football. The forward represented France from October 1964 to November 1968, making eight appearances and scoring two goals. At club level, he wore the colors of Sochaux, Saint-Étienne, Lille, Lyon and Rennes.

With Saint-Étienne, Guy won the French championship in 1964, while with Rennes he lifted the French Cup in 1971, converting the decisive penalty in the final against Lyon. During his spell at Lyon, the striker finished as Ligue 1's top scorer in the 1968/69 season with 25 goals.

It is worth noting that André Guy ranks among the most prolific players in the history of France's top flight, scoring 159 goals in the elite division overall.
