Former Liverpool co-owner and renowned Texas businessman Tom Hicks passed away at the age of 79 on Saturday night. Hicks was also known for running Hicks Sports Group, which owns the Texas Rangers baseball team and the Dallas Stars hockey franchise.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman highlighted Hicks's immense contribution to the growth of hockey in Texas. Under his leadership, the Dallas Stars became one of the league’s most successful franchises, capturing seven out of the next nine division titles, two Western Conference championships, and the Stanley Cup in 1999.
