Rescue services promptly located Mureșan, pulled him from the water, and rushed him to a medical facility. Despite prolonged resuscitation efforts, doctors were unable to revive him.

Throughout his career, Mureșan became one of the most recognizable midfielders in Romanian football. He played successfully for CFR Cluj, won national trophies, and represented the Romanian national team.
