RIP. A loss for world sport! Legendary Sir Billy Boston passes away

The rugby world has suffered an irreparable loss.

Details: Legendary Welsh rugby player Sir Billy Boston has passed away at the age of 92. The former Wigan Warriors and Great Britain star died at 92.

Born in Cardiff, Boston began his career in rugby union, but in 1953 made the switch to rugby league, signing with Wigan. Over 15 remarkable seasons with the club, he won the prestigious Challenge Cup three times and became a cult hero for generations of fans.

On the international stage, Billy Boston played 31 test matches for Great Britain, scored 24 tries, and helped his team claim the 1960 World Cup. In 1954, he also made history as the first Black player in the British Lions squad to tour Australia and New Zealand, where he set a record by scoring 36 tries in 18 matches.

In 2025, the legendary athlete became the first rugby league player in history to be knighted for outstanding services to the sport.
