Rift in the Indian team. Gambhir and Agarkar clash over the captain's seat
A major rift is brewing within the leadership of Indian cricket regarding the future captaincy of the national team.
Details: According to Manu., head coach Gautam Gambhir has been strongly advocating for Shreyas Iyer to take on the captaincy in the white-ball formats. However, selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar has categorically blocked this proposal.
It is claimed that Agarkar's stance is driven not by sporting considerations, but by personal animosity and old grievances against Iyer, which are now influencing his decisions.
Instead of Iyer, Agarkar is actively pushing Shubman Gill as a versatile leader capable of captaining the national team across all three formats. This strategy is aimed at establishing Gill as the long-term face of Indian cricket.
At the same time, the question of leadership in the shortest format is also being decided. Reports suggest that Sanju Samson is set to become the next T20I captain. As a result, the team’s management structure may undergo radical changes.
